PHOENIX (AZFamily) — A Phoenix police assistant is recovering after an alleged impaired driver struck a city vehicle in the Maryvale neighborhood late Friday night.
A spokesperson said the police assistant was helping direct traffic due to a earlier crash near 67th Avenue and McDowell Road around 10:30 p.m. The assistant was sitting inside of a City of Phoenix vehicle with its emergency lights on when another driver crashed into them.
Investigators say the driver showed signs of impairment and was taken into custody. The police assistant wasn’t seriously hurt, but was taken to the hospital as a precaution.

Police have not yet released the name of the at-fault driver. The investigation remains ongoing.
