PHOENIX (AZFamily) — Police have identified a man who was killed in a reported home invasion in the Camelback East neighborhood of Phoenix early Saturday morning.
51-year-old Daniel Saiz was shot by someone who forced their way inside his home, according to officials with the Phoenix Police Department. The suspect or suspects left before police arrived.
Saiz died at the scene.
The shooting happened around 4 a.m. near 36th and Sheridan streets, south of Thomas Road.
The investigation blocked off 36th Street in both directions as neighbors stood outside watching. Troy Williams owns a business across the street and found out what happened through Arizona’s Family.
“It can happen anywhere, anytime, anyplace. There is no agenda when somebody is breaking into your place,” Williams said.
For other neighbors like Tito Nunez, it’s a scene that has him thinking twice. He said he was going to lock his doors more often now.
One woman off-camera who lives in the neighborhood said she received an email from her landlord about a spike in break-ins over the last few weeks.
Homicide detectives responded to the scene and have taken over the investigation.
