The family of a former star athlete at La Salle High School honored his memory Friday by addressing the heart condition that took his life.Reid Rizzo was diagnosed with a heart condition known as cardiomyopathy when he was just three years old.His family thought he would beat the odds, and Reid became a talented four-star athlete. He shined as a shortstop for the La Salle baseball team, even going on to play college baseball.In 2012, Reid died in his sleep while playing with an amateur summer league in Madisonville, Kentucky.His family has since started the “Reid Rizzo Foundation” in his memory, hosting baseball tournaments and raising money for research.On Friday night, they honored Reid’s memory by donating an automated external defibrillator, or AED, to the Orchard Hills Swim Club in Cheviot.
