Large storm clusters brought powerful winds to Phoenix, Arizona, on Monday, July 13, whipping up walls of dust and obscuring visibility in the area.
The National Weather Service issued a dust storm warning for central and downtown Phoenix, with wind-blown dust in excess of 50 mph, low visibility, lightning and heavy rain impacting the area.
Footage here captured by Andrew Woodworth shows the haboob drifting across a shopping district, “swallowing up all in its path.”
“The mountains slowly disappeared. Severe winds followed, and then came heavy rain. Being that this was our first storm of the monsoon season, it felt exhilarating. This was our first storm in about eight months!” Woodworth told Storyful. Credit: Andrew Woodworth via Storyful
