PHOENIX (AZFamily) — In the heart of Ahwatukee, there’s a place where the aroma of roasted Hatch green chile fills the air, where every dish tells a story, and where food is more than just a meal — it’s a mission.
This is Green Chile Love, founded by Dave Castaneda, known to many as “Chile Dave.”
Castaneda’s journey started in Colorado, where green chile wasn’t just food, it was a way of life. Growing up, it was on the table at nearly every meal. It was tradition. It was comfort. It was family.

When Castaneda moved to Arizona, he went looking for that same flavor — that same feeling — but couldn’t find it. The bold, authentic green chile dishes he grew up with just weren’t here. So Castaneda learned how to cook it all himself.
What started in his own kitchen quickly turned into something bigger. Castaneda began sharing his green chile with friends, family, and fellow football fans at tailgates. One bite in, people kept asking the same question: “Where can I get more of this?” That question sparked an idea.
In 2019, Green Chile Love was born as a food truck, built on family recipes, bold flavor, and a simple mission — to bring authentic green chile to Arizona. But for Castaneda, it was never just about the food. It was about people.

As the business grew, so did the purpose. From feeding families in need to supporting local outreach and mission work, Castaneda made sure Green Chile Love stood for something bigger than what’s on the plate. His belief is simple: when you lead with love, the rest follows.
Today, Green Chile Love has grown into a brick-and-mortar restaurant, but the heart behind it hasn’t changed. Every burrito, every burger, every smothered dish carries the same passion, the same roots, and the same commitment to community. On the menu, you’ll find smothered burritos, Mexican hamburgers and chile cheese. They make an incredible Green Chile cheese smash burger, and a fan favorite is the stacked red or green chile enchiladas—made even better with an egg on top.
For Castaneda, this isn’t just a restaurant— it’s a way to serve. Because at Green Chile Love, you’re not just tasting delicious food, you’re experiencing a story, a culture, and a whole lot of love.
