Thirty years after Reasonable Doubt introduced the world to Shawn “JAŸ-Z” Carter, the Brooklyn rapper returned home and reminded New York why his influence extends far beyond music.
Across three sold-out nights at Yankee Stadium, JAŸ-Z transformed the Bronx into the center of hip-hop culture, drawing record-breaking crowds, surprise performances from some of music’s biggest stars and celebrity-packed audiences while proving that, three decades later, his connection to New York remains unmatched.
The celebration stretched well beyond Yankee Stadium. In the days leading up to the concerts, Roc Nation brought the anniversary of Reasonable Doubt to life through immersive pop-up experiences across the city, giving fans a chance to celebrate the landmark album before the first note was even played. The installations, exclusive merchandise and fan experiences helped turn the anniversary into a citywide celebration, with New York embracing one of its most influential artists.
The three-night residency made history before it even concluded. JAŸ-Z became the first artist to sell out three consecutive shows at Yankee Stadium, with each night featuring its own unique production and setlist. Night two drew 45,832 fans, setting a new record for the largest attendance ever for a concert at the venue and surpassing the record established just one night earlier.

Rather than repeating the same show, JAŸ-Z curated a different experience each evening, rewarding fans who attended multiple nights with entirely new moments.
Night one opened with Beyoncé joining JAŸ-Z for a performance of “Can’t Knock the Hustle” before he welcomed Nas, Alicia Keys, Memphis Bleek and Jaz-O throughout the evening. Blue Ivy Carter also drew one of the night’s biggest ovations as she took to the piano to introduce “Feelin’ It,” while Alicia Keys closed out one of the show’s defining moments with “Empire State of Mind.”
The surprises continued during night two as Eminem joined JAŸ-Z onstage for “Renegade” before launching into a performance of “Lose Yourself.” Pharrell Williams and Slick Rick also made appearances, adding to a night that combined hip-hop history with modern star power.
For the finale, JAŸ-Z delivered one final celebration by bringing out Teyana Taylor, Jermaine Dupri, Jeezy, Usher, Rihanna, Swizz Beatz, Pharrell Williams, Pusha T, Beyoncé, Fat Joe and Jadakiss, among others. Across three nights, each concert featured its own distinct production, setlist and guest lineup, making every performance a unique experience for fans.
The production itself matched the scale of the occasion. Massive stage designs, cinematic visuals and dramatic lighting transformed Yankee Stadium into a spectacle, while helicopters circled overhead with spotlights sweeping across the venue, creating one of the weekend’s most memorable images as thousands of fans poured into the Bronx each night.

Offstage, the concerts attracted an equally impressive guest list. LeBron James, Leonardo DiCaprio, Kevin Hart, Dave Chappelle, Dwyane Wade, Michael Rubin, Tyler Perry, Travis Scott, Karl-Anthony Towns, Carmelo Anthony, Jayson Tatum, Kelly Rowland and dozens of athletes, musicians and entertainers were among those spotted throughout the weekend, underscoring the significance of the celebration beyond music.
The excitement surrounding the shows extended outside Yankee Stadium as well. Fans packed nearby streets hours before gates opened, creating an atmosphere that felt more like a citywide festival than a concert. On the final night, large crowds led to delays and crowd-control challenges outside the stadium before fans entered the venue. Despite those issues, thousands remained eager to celebrate the final performance of the historic run.
Thirty years after releasing the album that changed the trajectory of hip-hop, JAŸ-Z didn’t simply commemorate an anniversary he reaffirmed his place at the center of New York culture. The record-breaking attendance, unforgettable performances and overwhelming citywide support served as a reminder that while generations of artists have followed in his footsteps, few can command New York the way JAŸ-Z still does.
For three nights, Yankee Stadium belonged to JAŸ-Z. Judging by the crowds that filled the stands, lined the streets and celebrated throughout the city, New York was more than happy to give it to him.
