Cooling centers to open Sunday as sweltering temperatures expected over the weekend

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – With sweltering temperatures expected to soar over the weekend, the city is opening cooling centers on Sunday, July 27.

Saturday will be undera heat advisory from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m., and on Sunday, highs are forecast to stay near 100 degrees.

The following centers will be open from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m.:

  • Main Jacksonville Public Library (303 N. Laura Street)

  • Legends Center and Gymnasium (5130 Soutel Dr.)

The city also has 29 pools and 16 splash pads open on Sundays as well.

Additionally, the Jacksonville Transportation Authority (JTA) is offering free rides to and from any cooling center. Just let your bus driver know if you are heading to or from a cooling center to receive complimentary transportation.

No registration or identification is required—just walk in and cool off.
