Rabid raccoon, fox reported in Greenwood and Georgetown counties
It’s 6:44 and time for news to go. We have *** look at today’s top news stories, your traffic and your weather all before you head out the door. That’s right. And we’re starting with your live Super Doppler 4 weather on this impact day. Victoria, we’re looking at hot conditions and maybe some rain potential. Yep, that’s exactly right. It is summer after all. We are going to see this kind of ramp up. Gorgeous sunrise behind me. It’s beautiful across the entire area, very cotton candy-like over Lake Cartwell, *** couple of boats out there already and temperatures warm. We’re at 74 degrees. Feels like 82 in Greenville, so it’s going to be *** very hot day as we go throughout the afternoon. We continue to heat up. Feels like 82 right now in Greenville with that urban heating, 69 in Clay at least, 76 in Walhalla, 73 in Northeast Georgia and Tokoa and Hartwell. Over the next few hours we heat up, feel like temperatures reach the triple digits. Actual temperatures in the mid to upper 90s. Western North Carolina in the 80s and low 90s for today. Then storms ramp up now in coverage coverage wise for today, it’s not as much as we’ll see this weekend, but more towards western North Carolina, Northeast Georgia, you’ll see that heavier rainfall. I’m not going to say it’s zero for the upstate. We do have *** chance for some rain throughout the afternoon, about 40%, but it does increase in coverage for Saturday and Sunday. So it is summer. Any storms that develop quickly intensify. We see those gusty winds, heavy rainfall, frequent lightning, and some hail at times. Just keep that in mind if you have those outdoor plans this weekend that continues on and off throughout your Saturday, clears out by Saturday night, and here we go again on Sunday. Scattered showers and storms are back by 5 p.m. on Sunday we do start to see *** couple more storms, and then we clear out Sunday night, and they’re back by Sunday. Any storms that develop over the next few days, there is *** low in threat of severe weather, so keep that in mind. As we head out the door, taking another look with our exclusive Sky 4 camera, that’s *** view over at Highway 14 along I-85. Good morning, Spartanburg County. Certainly starting to see the impacts of that 7 a.m. slowdown here along this interstate stretch. Definitely something we can expect, especially heading out of Spartanburg into Greenville. Story could probably be said about 85 to about the Pelham Road stretch on those northbound lanes as well. So keep that in mind as you head out the door, taking *** look at those drive times though, mainly in the green 26 3 85 stand strong. Aaron just said to me 7 minutes on 85. That’s about *** what, 2-3 song commute. We like it. We’ll take it. All right, y’all, the South Carolina Department of Transportation has closed the Oakland Road Bridge over Baker Creek in Greenville County as well. That was closed after an inspection and now crews will work to improve that bridge’s durability. You can see the detour now highlighted in your, highlighted on your screen in green. Make sure you give yourself some extra time if you plan to drive this area this morning. Right now, *** community pool in Honeyopath is closed until further notice. The town says the Shicola pool is experiencing *** pump motor failure. Staff say *** replacement motor’s been ordered, and it’s expected to arrive today. Then, once the new part’s installed, town leaders say the pool will reopen. The recreation department will reach out to any individuals or groups with scheduled events that are impacted by the closure. Meanwhile, more than 200,000 sandals are being recalled this morning. Kat and Jack children’s sandals sold at Target have decorative pearls on them, and those pearls can come off and become choking hazards. According to the Consumer Product Safety Commission. 23 instances of them falling off have been reported, but there have been no injuries reported. Target’s issuing refunds to anyone who bought the sandals. The South Carolina Beekeepers Association summer conference is underway in the upstate. It’s happening at Furman University until tomorrow afternoon, and it includes *** vendor’s market, classes and lectures for new and seasoned beekeepers, *** hunting show, and even *** live bee yard. Educating, you know, we do it in *** variety of ways. There’s classroom settings, but in the bee yard it’s that hands-on, you know, touching feeling of the equipment of actual bees. So we transported bees to come here and join the event and. The, the attendees will get that time and be able to ask questions one on one with those very knowledgeable beekeepers that just want to pass it on. Donaldson also says they’re offering *** free beginners class tomorrow, and if you’re interested in attending, tickets, including the free class, are still available at the door. The event schedule can be found on their website, SEstate beekeepers.com. And something else to be aware of, college students can have *** chance to serve as an intern in the US senator’s office. Senator Tim Scott’s now accepting applications for his fall 2026 internship program, and the openings are in Washington DC, along with his South Carolina offices. Those are located in North Charleston. Columbia and Greenville undergraduate and graduate students will get the chance to gain some hands-on experience in public service, and interns get the chance to work on federal policy, services, and projects. Students of all majors are encouraged to fill out an application at scott.senate.gov. And it has been 3 months since one nonprofit set its roots in Greenville County, working to help children facing uncertain housing circumstances. The Isaiah 117 House offers *** safe, clean, and fun space for children to stay after they’ve been removed from their home by the. Department of Social Services for any number of reasons. The house has multiple bedrooms, *** living room, and plenty of snacks for whoever spends the day, week, or months there. This weekend, the group is hosting an opportunity to get involved with dozens of lemonade stands all across the upstate. Summer across all of our 63 locations, we just encourage everyone to join us in telling the story and spreading awareness. Here in Greenville County, our goal this year was 50 stands and reaching 2000 people. Um, we now, right now have 49 stands registered, so we’re so close. The lemonade stands will be open across the county starting today, and they’ll run through Sunday. And the Spartanburg County Sheriff’s Office is hosting *** Christmas in July toy drive today. You can donate new unwrapped toys at the Target in Spartanburg and Boiling Springs from 10:00 to 2 o’clock. Donations will benefit children through the Leo Santa Program.

The South Carolina Department of Public Health has confirmed two animals from different counties have tested positive for rabies.Officials say in Greenwood County, a raccoon was found near Blue Jay and Stevenson Roads that tested positive for rabies. One dog was exposed and is expected to be quarantined in compliance with the South Carolina Rabies Control Act.In Georgetown County, a fox was found near Plantersville Road and North Fraser Street that tested positive for rabies. One person and one dog were exposed and have been referred for care and quarantine. “Keeping your pets and livestock current on their rabies vaccination is a responsibility that comes with owning an animal. It is one of the easiest and most effective ways you can protect yourself, your family, your pets, and your livestock from this fatal disease. That is an investment worth making to provide yourself some peace of mind,” said Terri McCollister, DPH’s rabies program manager. GREENWOOD, S.C. —
The South Carolina Department of Public Health has confirmed two animals from different counties have tested positive for rabies.
Officials say in Greenwood County, a raccoon was found near Blue Jay and Stevenson Roads that tested positive for rabies. One dog was exposed and is expected to be quarantined in compliance with the South Carolina Rabies Control Act.
In Georgetown County, a fox was found near Plantersville Road and North Fraser Street that tested positive for rabies. One person and one dog were exposed and have been referred for care and quarantine.
“Keeping your pets and livestock current on their rabies vaccination is a responsibility that comes with owning an animal. It is one of the easiest and most effective ways you can protect yourself, your family, your pets, and your livestock from this fatal disease.
