Two people were arrested Thursday night after police say that they forcefully took a child across state lines into Jacksonville.

On Thursday, July 16, police say that a woman, Giavonnie Carter, had approached a home in Baxley, Georgia, while holding a knife.

After gaining entry to the home, police said that she and a man, identified as Johnathon Kelly, had “forcibly” taken her biological child from the home and into a vehicle. Shortly after, an Amber Alert was issued, as police believed that she had crossed state lines and was in danger.

At around 9:30 p.m., the F.B.I Jacksonville and the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office believed that they found Carter and Kelly’s vehicle at a hotel on Phillips Highway. A search warrant was issued and the child was found unharmed. Baxley police say that both Carter and Kelly were arrested at the hotel.

Carter is charged with kidnapping, home invasion, and aggravated assault, while Kelly is facing charges of kidnapping, home invasion and probation violation.
