BATON ROUGE, La. (WAFB) – Hurricane Hunters may have to take action as a tropical wave strengthens over the Gulf.
TROPICAL WAVE INVEST 91-L
Invest 91-L has formed over the Gulf as of Saturday afternoon. This tropical wave, west of the Florida coast, is moving northwest at 5 mph and has max winds of 25 mph. Heavy rainfall is expected along the east Gulf Coast through early next week.

THE BIRTH OF BERTHA?
The chance of Invest 91-L strengthening has increased to 50 percent. Development of this storm is possible as it hovers over the Gulf, and it may become a tropical depression in the next few days. If this system becomes a tropical storm, its name will be Bertha.

TRACKING 91-L
A few showers or storms associated with 91-L are expected to impact parts of southeast Louisiana and southern Mississippi through next week; however, the chance of direct or major impacts is very low as of Saturday evening. 91-L is expected to produce heavy rainfall across parts of Alabama, Florida, and Georgia over the next several days. Hurricane Hunters could investigate this storm as early as Sunday, if needed. Additional tropical weather information is available here.
