Centerton city officials are asking residents to immediately conserve water after a major water main break disrupted service from the Benton Washington Regional Public Water Authority.According to the City of Centerton, the water authority experienced a mainline disruption early Sunday morning that is impacting water systems across Northwest Arkansas.City officials said crews are on site repairing the damaged line. Officials said repairs are expected to take until later Sunday afternoon, followed by the time needed to refill and flush the system before water service can fully return to normal.Even after repairs are complete, the Benton Washington Regional Public Water Authority is asking customers to continue conserving water through at least Monday evening so storage facilities can be replenished ahead of higher water demand expected later this week. The city is asking customers to avoid running lawn and landscape sprinklers, doing laundry, washing vehicles, filling swimming pools and any other non-essential water use.”If it can wait until later today after repairs are completed, please do so,” the Centerton Mayor Bill Edwards said in a statement.According to an email from the Benton Washington Regional Public Water Authority, the break occurred around 6 a.m. when a three-foot section of a 36-inch ductile iron pipe failed near the Pea Ridge vault on the west side of Highway 72.Crews are working to isolate the damaged section and bring contractors to the site for repairs.The damaged line stretches between Highway 94 and Highway 72. Isolating it will cut off water flow from the Decatur tank site to Pea Ridge’s high-pressure system.As a result, officials said the Brush Creek area will require a boil water notice because water pressure has been lost there.The disruption is expected to affect several water systems, including, Centerton, Pea Ridge, Brush Creek, Bella Vista Property Owners Association, Decatur, Highfill, Gentry, Tontitown and Simmons Foods Plant.Water officials said Bella Vista is temporarily switching to Bentonville’s water supply, while Tontitown is working to receive water from Springdale to reduce demand on Decatur’s storage system. Centerton officials said they will provide updates as more information becomes available and thanked residents for helping conserve water during the outage.
