Short-term rental companies like Airbnb and VRBO are urging the city to reduce the restrictions enacted by Local Law 18, which requires rental hosts to register with the Mayor’s Office of Special Enforcement.
However, the city argues that the law protects visitors from potential rental schemes and protects housing for New Yorkers amid an ongoing housing shortage.
Christian Klossner, the executive director of the Mayor’s Office of Special Enforcement, joined “The Rush Hour” on Monday to talk about the city’s stance on proposed changes to the law.
