KINGSTON, N.Y. — Top-seeded Evan Ambrose and Karen Gill captured the UIster County Open Tennis Tournament’s men’s and women’s singles titles, respectively, at Forsyth Park on Sunday, July 19.

Ambrose bested No. 3 seed Mat Guido 6-3, 6-3 in the title match. Ambrose didn’t lose a set in his five wins on the way to claiming the championship.

Gill beat No. 2 Carolyn Pinheiro 6-0, 6-2 in the women’s singles final. Gill didn’t drop a set in three matches.

The 2026 tennis championship had a 63% increase over 2025 in unique participants, with 48 people participating in more than one draw.

The longest match of the two-week tournament was 33 games. Franz Kaisik and Rick Lange defeated Jesse Goldfarb and Philippe Hyman 6-7, 6-4, 6-4 in the marathon men’s doubles match.

Guido had the most games by a player (148).

A total of 1,720 games were played by all players combined.

A total of $7,685 was raised from player registrations and sponsorships, with more to come in September’s 45-and-over event. The funds will be allocated to the improvement of local tennis courts.
