SAN ANTONIO — Two men were arrested after leading authorities on a high-speed pursuit in a stolen vehicle on Friday, according to the Bexar County Sheriff’s Office (BCSO).

Deputies say just before 3:00 p.m. the BCSO Street Crimes Unit observed a white Dodge Charger speeding and tailgating other cars on Gibbsprawl near Walzem.

After conducting a license plate inquiry, deputies discovered that the vehicle had been reported stolen and initiated a traffic stop with lights and sirens. It was determined that the license plate belonged to a stolen 2020 Nissan Rogue, stolen in 2021. The 2021 Dodge Charger itself was also reported stolen out of Austin, Texas.

The vehicle sped up and went through multiple roads in the Windcrest area, eventually reaching IH-35 North. The San Antonio Police Department’s Eagle helicopter was dispatched and monitored the suspect who continued driving erratically endangering other motorists passing on the shoulders and weaving in and out of traffic during peak traffic time.

The suspect traveled from Northeast Loop 410 to IH-10 West, just past the Kendall County line, where a Texas Department of Public Safety (DPS) trooper executed a PIT maneuver to stop the vehicle. The vehicle crashed without damaging any nearby property and the driver and passenger fled on foot into a nearby business parking lot. The driver was apprehended by the trooper and the passenger was later found hiding between a mock silo and a building by DPS.

BCSO identified the driver as Francisco Alvarado, 22, and passenger as Jayden Rubio, 20. Alvarado faces charges of Unauthorized Use of a Motor Vehicle and Evading Arrest, and Rubio faces a charge of Evading Detention. No injuries were reported to any officers or citizens.
