PHOENIX (AZFamily) — Several mountain rescues are underway across the Valley as crews work to save hikers experiencing heat-related symptoms on Saturday.
In Phoenix, two people needed to be rescued off of Camelback Mountain after suffering heat-related symptoms on Saturday afternoon.
Phoenix Fire were called to the Echo Canyon Trail near McDonald Drive and Tatum Boulevard. Crews used a big wheel stretcher to get the hiker off the mountain. They were taken to the hospital in stable condition.
While the Phoenix Fire technical team was in the midst of the first rescue, they were alerted by other hikers that another person in the group was unable to continue down the mountain due to heat-related symptoms.
Phoenix Fire says the plan is to do a hoist rescue using the Phoenix PD Firebird to get the hiker down the mountain. It is unknown what the second hiker’s condition is, or if they will need to go to the hospital.
