A car was left overturned and badly damaged its driver veered off the side of a railroad viaduct in Chicago and landed on several parked cars on Tuesday.
Chicago police said a 53-year-old man was traveling eastbound in a sedan on a railroad gravel road above West 16th Street when he lost control and struck two vehicles in the street below.
Video posted to social media around 5:15 p.m. showed the vehicle flipped on its roof and resting on at least one other vehicle near the intersection of West 16th Street and South Blue Island Avenue in the city’s Pilsen neighborhood.
Authorities said the driver of the vehicle declined medical attention but a 44-year-old woman who was a passenger in the car was taken to a local hospital, where she was initially listed in fair condition.
Police said the driver was not cited.
The front windshield of the car could be seen completely shattered, and the driver’s side door, back windshield and sunroof were completely busted out, video showed. The airbags could also be seen deployed.
The railing along the side of the viaduct also appeared to be bent and broken directly above where the car crashed, and the back window of a white Tesla parked next to the crashed vehicle was also shattered, video showed.
