The city of Hurst has ended its call for water conservation. The city was asking residents who live north of SH 183 to conserve water. The city was working on a water main repair that took longer than anticipated. The city said it would release more information if it needed the conservation to be extended.
The city just shared information about water waste last week.
The city said, “Many homeowners overwater their lawns either by watering too often or by applying way more water than necessary. You can encourage deeper roots and a more drought-tolerant lawn by spacing out your irrigation days to water no more than two days a week, even less if it’s rained.”
Watering schedule in Hurst:
- Monday: No watering
- Tuesday: Non-residential sites (apartments, business, parks, common areas)
- Wednesday & Saturday: Residential addresses ending in even numbers
- Thursday & Sunday: Residential addresses ending in odd numbers
The city added, “keeping your irrigation cycles short, six to eight minutes per cycle for spray heads and 12 to 14 minutes for rotors, will help minimize runoff and water waste.”
They recommend “cycle and soak,” which means splitting up a long irrigation cycle into two shorter ones and allowing time in between (30 minutes to an hour) to give water a chance to soak in. They also ask residents to avoid using irrigation or sprinkler systems between 10 a.m. and 6 p.m.
