CHICAGO (25News Now) – 30 Beluga whales needed rescue after Marineland of Canada closed in 2024. Four of those whales have already found a new place to swim here in Illinois.
Acadia, Osiris, Sierra, and Lillooet have arrived at Shedd Aquarium in Chicago. They traveled from Canada to the Windy City in specialized water-filled containers carried by trucks and planes.
Now, veterinarians are monitoring their health. The public can’t go see them yet.
Experts will take what they learned from this move and apply it when moving other animals out of Canada. Shedd Aquarium has committed to lifelong care for up to ten Beluga Whales as part of the effort.
