(Gray News) — An over-the-counter allergy medication sold nationwide is being recalled for a mix-up with another medication that could potentially be life-threatening.
Unique Pharmaceutical Laboratories is recalling cetirizine hydrochloride tablets, an antihistamine commonly sold as a generic version of Zyrtec.
The recall was announced Saturday.
According to the FDA, the recall includes bottles of 5-mg allergy tablets.

The recalled medication has identifying lot numbers printed on the sides of the bottles. For a list of exact lot numbers included in this recall, visit the FDA’s website.
The bottles may be contaminated with ranitidine, formerly known as the brand name Zantac. The medication is used to treat heartburn, ulcers and indigestion.
The FDA said the problem was found by a pharmacy technician who was counting the allergy tablets. The technician noticed the wrong-colored pills in the bottles, which prompted the recall.
For people with hypersensitivity to ranitidine, taking this medication could potentially cause life-threatening reactions, including anaphylaxis.
To date, there have been no reports of illnesses associated with this recall.
The recalled medication was sold nationwide at several retailers.
