During a Code Red, everyone is urged to limit strenuous outdoor activity and shorten the amount of time outside.
People with heart and lung disease, as well as older adults, pregnant women and young children are also urged to avoid strenuous activity outside and keep time outside short.
Much of the rest of the Philadelphia region is under a Code Orange Air Quality Alert, which means the above mentioned groups should be careful when going outside, or avoid it all together.
The poor air quality is a result of wildfires in Canada.
The air quality is expected to improve after midnight.
