Two people died on Thursday after they were found in a vehicle on the University of Chicago campus with gunshot wounds, police said.
Around 5:35 p.m., a 27-year-old woman and a 24-year-old man were discovered inside a vehicle on the 5900 block of South Ellis, each with a gunshot wound to the head, police said.
Both the man and woman were transported to a local hospital in critical condition and were later pronounced dead.
The two victims were found near Midway Plaisance Ice Skating Rink and Harper Quad.
A weapon was recovered from the scene, police said.
Police are continuing to investigate. Officers were still on scene as of just before 8 p.m.
Video of the scene captured by an NBC Chicago photographer showed the vehicle appeared to have crashed during or after the shooting and was damaged during the crash.
No additional information was immediately available.
