NEWPORT, Ore. (KATU) — Team Parker emerged victorious at a Newport sandcastle competition, taking first place with their intricately sculpted great white shark.

The event, held at South Beach, saw participation from 19 teams and a total of 68 participants, drawing approximately 200 attendees.

“It was a great morning to be out at the beach and we had some spectacular sculptures,” said Patrick Newhall, a park ranger with the South Beach Management Unit of the Oregon Parks and Recreation Department.
