Intense July Houston heat moves in for the weekend

Bertha’s storms from Friday are long gone, however, we may see some occasional streamer showers moving in from the coast for this afternoon. Nothing serious but you can track them below on the radar:

This Afternoon’s Forecast:

This afternoon will be quieter and hotter as dry air will move in behind Bertha, which has fallen apart across Northern Mexico. Most of Southeast Texas will stay dry under partly cloudy skies.

There is a 20% chance of rain coming from the sea breeze, but most of those storms will stay capped so expect sprinkles at best. High temperatures climb into the mid-90s, and the humidity could push heat index values as high as 106 degrees the next three days.

A very stout ridge of high pressure is strengthening across the Central Plains and will be the dominant weather pattern for us for the next 7-12 days.

Once these high pressure ridges get into place, they are usually very strong and do not move for a number of days. We will likely see this high keeping our temperatures pushing close to 100 each afternoon for the next week and maybe longer. Rain chances will be very minimal.

The tropics will stay quiet:

We’ll get long break from our next storm. There is nothing brewing in the tropics for the next seven to ten days.

By the time we get to the weekend we’ll only be dealing with the heat and humidity. As you can see I have more 100° days in the forecast next week. We are now in the heart of summer!
