Kim Gordon is bringing a dose of alternative rock to San Francisco.
The former bassist of alternative rock group Sonic Youth is currently touring her third solo album, “Play Me,” which was released in March. The more experimental record marks a progression in Gordon’s music, blending electronic beats with hip-hop and trap sensibilities, making for a more melodic record that her previous works.
A punk trailblazer, Gordon spent three decades with Sonic Youth before the group disbanded in 2011 following her divorce from bandmate Thurston Moore. Away from the spotlight, she has built a career as a visual artist, displaying her paintings at prominent galleries, and also co-founded the 1990s streetwear line X-Girl with stylist Daisy von Furth.
Gordon, who previously performed at Oakland’s Mosswood Meltdown festival in 2022, is set to return to the Bay Area for a show at San Francisco’s Castro Theatre on Wednesday, July 29.
