Star Trek: Strange New Worlds star Anson Mount surprised fans by announcing he and his wife, Darah Trang, welcomed their second child, Violet.
Mount took to his Instagram account to explain he would not be attending this year’s San Diego Comic Con because of his new family addition. The couple, who wed in 2018, also have a 3-year-old daughter named Clover.
“I want to let you know why I am missing Comic Con for the second year in a row, last year, you’ll remember that I had a commitment with friends in Tennessee. And this year, I had a family commitment, and I guess this is the announcement, because my wife Darrah and I were lucky enough to welcome our daughter, Violet, to the world on July 10 around 7 pm,” said Mount in his Instagram video.
His post also featured several pictures of Violet.
“Sorry to be missing @sdcomic_con for the 2nd year in a row, but here’s my excuse. And it’s a GOOD ONE!” read a portion of the caption.
Several fans flocked to the comments section to congratulate Mount, who plays Captain Christopher Pike on Star Trek: Strange New Worlds.
“Aww! That’s a great reason to miss Comic Con! Spend time with your sweet little family! Congratulations,” wrote a commenter.
“Congratulations! And this is the BEST reason to miss a con! Have a great first time together!” added another.
“Congrats to the both of you and yay for Clover, a big sister This is a precious time for you! Enjoy your family! Your Star Trek fam will be here before, during and after,” shared a different person.
Mount spoke about fatherhood in the July 15 episode of actor Michael Rosenbaum‘s podcast, Inside of You. He said that his priorities shifted after welcoming Clover.
“Your connection with this being that you just brought into the world is so strong that you will move mountains. It changes you. It changes your priorities. It makes you stronger. It makes you want to do the best possible thing all the time,” said the 52-year-old actor.
