PHOENIX (AZFamily) — A Phoenix police officer was injured after another driver crashed into a city facility yard and slammed into the officer’s parked squad car, police said.
The crash happened just before 10 p.m. Friday near the Phoenix Police Department’s Mountain View Precinct in the area of Maryland Avenue and 20th Street, just south of Glendale Avenue.
Police said the driver of an SUV left the parking lot heading north, went through a fence, down a berm and into the parked patrol vehicle at the fuel pumps.
The officer was thrown from the vehicle but is expected to be OK, according to Phoenix police. The officer was taken to a hospital and is in stable condition.
No other property was damaged, and no other injuries were reported.
Police said the SUV driver is suspected of impairment, and the investigation is ongoing.
This was one of two law enforcement-involved crashes in Phoenix Friday night. A detention deputy and three inmates were taken to the hospital after a crash in central Phoenix near 19th Avenue and Interstate 17.
