A small blue house in Dallas’ Bishop Arts District is serving nostalgic comfort food, natural wine and an intimate dining experience designed to feel special without becoming stuffy.
In the July 22 episode of Nellie’s Hidden Gems, host Nellie Sciutto visits Little Blue Bistro and speaks with chef-owner Olivia Genthe about the food, atmosphere and hospitality that keep diners coming back.
“I like to focus on really nostalgic foods and feelings,” Genthe told Sciutto. She said the restaurant allows her to tell stories through its dishes, lighting, music and service.
One dish best captures that approach: the pot roast.
“I like to say pot roast is a feeling,” Genthe said. “It is so warm. It is so comforting. Everybody always connects it to something that they had when they were a child.”
The episode also gives viewers a closer look at Little Blue Bistro’s escargot with herb butter and stracciatella, a creamy cheese similar to the inside of burrata, served with focaccia and tomatoes.
Genthe said the kitchen works with small producers and focuses on high-quality ingredients without overcomplicating its dishes.
“We really just let good quality products stand for themselves,” she said.
That approach carries over to the restaurant’s natural wine program, which includes selections from producers around the world. Genthe described Little Blue Bistro as a white-tablecloth restaurant that remains approachable in both price and atmosphere. The property includes an intimate dining room, outdoor seating and a garden for larger parties.
Sciutto also visits Seegars Deli in the Cedars, another Genthe concept serving sandwiches such as fried bologna, dill turkey and a traditional grinder.
The episode continues Sciutto’s tour of North Texas destinations after a previous stop at Billy Bob’s Texas, as previously reported by The Dallas Express.
