New Mexico Department of Wildlife captures a bear Sunday in northwest Albuquerque
“We’ve lived here for 11 years and never – we’ve seen coyotes – but never a bear,” said Marco Dinaro, who lives in the neighborhood where the bear was captured.
ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. —
Field crews with New Mexico Department of Wildlife captured a bear Sunday morning in northwest Albuquerque.
According to Albuquerque Police, officers were called out to a neighborhood near Sundoro South Park in northwest Albuquerque for report of a bear sighting. APD confirms that a mother bear and a cub were seen in the area, and the mother bear was seen eating apples in a backyard.
“We’ve lived here for 11 years and never – we’ve seen coyotes – but never a bear,” said Marco Dinaro, who lives in the neighborhood where the bear was captured. “We happened to look above the second floor and then we saw the bear just crawling on the walls (outside).”
Police say the mother bear was tranquilized in the 9500 block of Sonterro Avenue Northwest. KOAT had a crew in the area as New Mexico Game and Fish removed the bear from the scene on a bear gurney. The cub is still on the loose.
