OXNARD, Calif. — Cowboys safety P.J. Locke was helped off the field during Wednesday’s training camp practice with a knee injury, a person familiar with the situation told The Dallas Morning News.
Locke limped off the field with roughly half an hour left in the team’s first training camp practice. He was back pedaling during a play and appeared to injure his left knee when he planted on it. It was a non-contact injury. Locke walked alongside Dr. Jim Maurer, the team’s head trainer, off the field. He didn’t return.
Locke was one of multiple secondary additions the Cowboys made this offseason. He signed a one-year, $4 million deal with the Cowboys after spending six years with the Denver Broncos. Locke had an interception in the AFC playoffs to help seal a win over the Buffalo Bills last season.
In Denver, Locke overlapped with new Cowboys defensive coordinator Christian Parker. Earlier this offseason, Locke was heralded by the coaching staff for his leadership and his communication skills in a secondary that features a lot of new players.
Locke spent the majority of the team’s first practice on Wednesday working with the second-team defense.
