WOMEN’S BASKETBALL

Old Dominion women’s basketball coach DeLisha Milton-Jones had her jersey retired by the WNBA’s Los Angeles Sparks on Tuesday night at Crypto.com Arena.

Milton-Jones is one of the most accomplished players in the franchise’s history, helping the team win its first two championships in 2001 and 2002. The forward averaged 17 points, 8 rebounds and 4 assists per game during the 2001 WNBA Finals while shooting 72.2% from the field.

She becomes the fourth player in the team’s 30-year history to have her jersey retired, joining Penny Toler (No. 11 in 2006), Lisa Leslie (No. 9 in 2010) and Candace Parker (No. 3 in 2025).

“Moments like this are well worth the wait,” said Milton-Jones, who spent 11 seasons over two stints with the team (1999-2004 and 2008-12).

Milton-Jones ranks third in franchise history in blocks (245) and fourth in points (4,018), field goals (1,509), rebounds (1,882), steals (440) and minutes (10,384). She was a three-time All-Star (2000, 2004, 2007).

HU’s Allen makes HBCU player of year watch list

Hampton University offensive lineman Omari Allen is one of 20 players named to the Stats Perform HBCU National Player of the Year watch list.

The award honors the outstanding player from the 21 HBCU programs in the FCS.

Allen, a senior from Henderson, North Carolina, will anchor an offensive line that has helped the Pirates lead the Coastal Athletic Association in rushing twice in the past three seasons. He is an All-CAA first-team preseason selection after making the second team after last season.

Admirals re-sign forward Reifenberger

The Norfolk Admirals have re-signed forward Marko Reifenberger for the upcoming season.

The 27-year-old from Hastings, Minnesota, has collected 13 goals and 18 assists in 132 games for the Admirals.

SWIMMING

UVA grad wins five medals at Commonwealth Games

University of Virginia graduate Aimee Canny and incoming freshman Jessica Thompson performed well in representing South Africa at the Commonwealth Games in Glasgow, Scotland.

Canny won five medals and Thompson two in the six-day event which featured athletes from the British Commonwealth of Nations and is held every four years.

Canny collected silver medals in the 100-meter breaststroke, 200-meter individual medley and 4×100 mixed relay and a bronze in the mixed 4×100 medley relay. She and Thompson earned bronze in the 4×100 freestyle relay. Thompson earned a second bronze in the 4×100 medley relay.

COLLEGE TENNIS

CNU men, women pick up ITA academic accolades

The Christopher Newport men’s and women’s tennis teams have been recognized as ITA All-Academic Teams. Both squads also had several players earn ITA Scholar-Athlete certificates.

The women’s team had six honorees: Samantha Robertson, Kendal Chang, Eva Taylor, Nathalie Lanne, Kylie Schaefer and Erin Gross. Robertson is a three-time selection, while Chang and Taylor are repeat picks.

The men’s players honored were Vincent Truong, Nesh Kumaresan, Sam Halvorsen, Nathan Russell and Jamison Wallace. Truong is a four-time selection, while Kumaresan earned the certificate for the third time.

Players had to have a grade-point average of at least 3.5 during the current academic year.
