An arrest was made Thursday in connection with the hit-and-run crash that claimed the life of Hazleton Area graduate and Temple University student Bryce Wolfe last month.
The U.S. Marshals Service in Philadelphia said 48-year-old Derek Reid was taken into custody Thursday. Details regarding the charges Reid faces were not released.
Police said Reid was also wanted in connection with the rape of a child.
Wolfe, 20, was killed in a collision at the intersection of Kelly and Reservoir drives around 11:15 p.m. on June 24. Police said the driver of the SUV was traveling eastbound and after realizing a U-turn could not be completed, entered the path of Wolfe traveling westbound on his 2004 Triumph motorcycle.
Police said the motorcycle struck the SUV, trapping Wolfe underneath.
The driver fled the scene and dragged Wolfe for more than one mile until he became dislodged in the area of Fountain Green Drive.
Wolfe was rushed to Penn Presbyterian Medical Center and was pronounced dead at 4:41 a.m. on June 25, police said. Wolfe was wearing a helmet.
Wolfe just completed his sophomore year as an actuarial science major within the Fox School of Business and was enrolled in the Temple and Fox honors programs. He was a recipient of both the Provost’s Academic Scholarship and the Fox School of Business Endowed Scholarship.
Wolfe graduated from Hazleton Area in 2024, was a state award winner in Future Business Leaders of America and competed with his brother, Tyler, in the school’s unified sports program.
