Two local Rite Aid stores are closing after the company filed for bankruptcy for the second time this May.
Shelves began to empty last month and in the last few weeks, customers have been offered deep discounts on remaining products at the locations in the Village at Pacific Highlands Ranch and Del Mar Highlands Town Center.
The Del Mar store had been in the center for over 25 years and the Pacific Highlands Ranch store was one of the major anchor tenants of the Village when it opened in 2015. At the time the Pacific Highlands Ranch store was the first Rite Aid to open in San Diego in 10 years; it featured one of the area’s only drive-through pharmacies.
According to signs posted on the door, customers’ prescriptions will be transferred to the CVS Pharmacy in the Beachside Del Mar shopping center on Del Mar Heights Road.
So far, there is no news about what may fill the big box spaces in the two shopping centers.
