DJ and keyboardist Sid Wilson has officially been fired from Slipknot. TMZ reports, through a source close to the band, that Wilson was notified late this afternoon (Fri, July 31st) that he’s been permanently removed from the band.
It’s unclear why Wilson was removed. Neither the band nor Wilson has publicly commented at this time.
The band’s reps did not immediately respond to a request for comment.
Wilson joined the band in 1998, completing the iconic nine-member lineup defined by their numbered masks. Alongside Wilson, this classic roster featured late drummer Joey Jordison, late bassist Paul Gray, percussionists/vocalists Chris Fehn and Shawn “Clown” Crahan, guitarists Jim Root and Mick Thomson, keyboardist/sampler Craig “133” Jones, and frontman Corey Taylor. The group released their self-titled debut album with Roadrunner Records in 1999.
Wilson chose his designation number of zero because he felt the number represented absolute filth and a clean slate when the band assigned numbers to members.
The band formed in Des Moines, Iowa, in 1995 as a five-member group with Crahan, Gray, Jordison, percussionist Anders Colsefni, and lead guitarist Donnie Steele. That lineup recorded the rare demo Mate. Feed. Kill. Repeat.
