Vermont health officials confirm five cyclosporiasis cases, say none linked to recalled lettuce
MONTPELIER, Vt. —
Vermont health officials have confirmed five cases of cyclosporiasis, an intestinal illness caused by the microscopic parasite. None appear to be connected to the multistate outbreak tied to recalled lettuce.
The Vermont Department of Health said Thursday the recalled lettuce, from produce supplier Taylor Farms, was not distributed in Vermont.
Taylor Farms said impacted products were shipped to 27 states, including New Hampshire, where nine cyclosporiasis cases were linked to contaminated lettuce served at the Cheshire Medical Center in Keene.
Officials believe some of the cases in Vermont are related to travel, which they said is common for the illness. The illness isn’t transmitted person-to-person.
The department expects additional cases to be identified as awareness of the outbreak prompts more people to seek testing.
