Sean Barnard lists his best Alyssa Thomas prop bets for Sunday’s Phoenix Mercury and Washington Mystics matchup.

It is a busy five-game slate of WNBA action taking place today. The Phoenix Mercury and Washington Mystics will face off as part of the action, with the Mercury looking to bounce back from their three-game losing skid. You cannot get far when talking about Phoenix without bringing up Alyssa Thomas.

The six-time All-Star is averaging 15.1 points, 9.4 assists and 7.8 rebounds per game so far this season. Phoenix is a true championship contender on paper, but it is still putting the full pieces together. This is the second matchup of the season between these two teams, with the Mercury producing a 68-62 victory back in May.

Looking at today’s odds, the Mercury enter as eight-point favorites and -325 on the moneyline on DraftKings Sportsbook. The Mystics hold +260 odds of getting the outright victory with the game total set at 162.5.

Here are my favorite Alyssa Thomas prop bets for Sunday’s Mercury at Mystics matchup.

Best Alyssa Thomas Prop Bets on DraftKings Sportsbook

Alyssa Thomas to Record a Double-Double (-120)

Alyssa Thomas is a Swiss Army knife on the basketball court who can impact the game in any way. She is a double-double threat on a nightly basis and has reached this statistical output in 12 of the 19 games this season. Five of these have come via points and rebounding pairings, and seven have come via assists and scoring pairings, with one triple-double logged.

Betting the double-double allows you to cash your bet regardless of which direction it occurs. Thomas struggled in the first matchup with Washington, being limited to 11 points, eight rebounds and five assists. This marked one of her lowest statistical outputs across the board, but the six-time All-Star has been playing at a high level as of late. She enters this game having notched a double-double in back-to-back games and five of her past seven.

Looking at the matchup, the Mystics have played at a better level of late, but they still have some points of concern. Washington ranks fifth in rebounding percentage and fourth in opponent assists per game. Thomas has scored in double figures in 17 of the 19 games this season, and the outlook will likely be dependent on her assist or rebounding output. I am backing that her hot streak of production continues and Thomas gets some revenge against the team she struggled with earlier this year. Expect her fingerprints to be all over the Mercury’s production, just as is typically the case, and for her to fill whatever role is asked. Getting -120 odds for Thomas to record a double-double is solid value considering she has reached this in 63.2% of the games thus far.

Alyssa Thomas Over 7.5 Rebounds (-125)

Alyssa Thomas leads the Mercury in rebounding (minimum two games played) at 7.8 per game. She has been especially impactful in this category of late, having tallied 24 rebounds across the past two games. Thomas has tallied over 7.5 rebounds in nine of the 19 games this season. This includes pulling in eight rebounds in the first matchup with the Mystics.

Washington has a team-oriented approach to rebounding that has produced some success. It ranks fifth in rebounds per game, fifth in rebounding percentage and leads the WNBA in opponent rebounds allowed. Just last night in their victory over the Seattle Storm, Shakira Austin, Kiki Iriafen and Sonia Citron each tallied 10+ rebounds.

Thomas carries a heavier rebounding responsibility than any individual player on the Mystics. This is the angle of her statistical output I am most confident in and why I am backing the 2023 rebounding champion to tally over 7.5 boards. While her 7.8 rebounds per game are respectable enough, Thomas averaged 8.4 rebounds per game last year and 9.9 the season prior. Her recent stretch of back-to-back 11+ rebound games could be a sign of things to come and the beginning of a strong period for this rebounding output to grow. I am backing this trend to continue and for her to comfortably eclipse 7.5 rebounds per game for the second matchup against the Mystics this season and the third straight game.
