The transfer portal can be very helpful nowadays, but the Bulldogs have not forgotten about high school players. We were able to catch up with the latest commit.

Cam’ron Thompson is a 2026 interior offensive lineman from Gadsden County High School in Havana, Fla. He checks the boxes at 6-3 height and 300 pounds. Now he has checked another box by making the call for Mississippi State.

“Things have been going great with Coach (Phil) Loadholt,” said Thompson. “He really likes me, and I am just excited to be able to play for him. Coach Loadholt is the reason why I decided to commit to Mississippi State. Since I have gotten an offer from them, he has made sure that I feel wanted by them and their staff.”

We spoke with Thompson back when he first got his offer from Mississippi State and he seemed very excited at the time.  Thompson has a nice list of offers to choose from, but he decided to go ahead and verbally commit to Mississippi State.

Thompson is a big kind of player who has a little attitude working in the trenches. He is going to make it hard for defensive linemen to get comfortable against him and his team. Thompson has the body that offensive coordinators want to put their running backs behind and shows really good strength which makes it really hard for defensive linemen to get any initial push on him.

Now, with his decision made, Thompson is pushing towards his senior season.

“The preseason has been going great for my team,” said Thompson. “We are so much focused and ready for this year season. I feel like our team is more prepared for this season than we were last year. We have been locked in since our preseason camps have started.”

Thompson has over twenty offers to choose from, but he decided that he wanted to choose Mississippi State. Loadholt knows how to evaluate players and  chooses the right guys who he feels is going to give him and Jeff Lebby the best chance to have a lot of success in the future. Loadholt loves the big boys with height, so we have to assume that Thompson passes the eye test.

Besides that, the way they present the program to young men is showing in these commitments.

“No other schools are putting pressure on me like Mississippi State,” said Thompson. “The only official visit that I have set up right now is Mississippi State. They have been doing a good job of letting me know that they want me playing for their program next season.”

Phil Loadholt is still on a roll with bringing in the right guys to help the program. The Bulldogs know that they need the right tools on the offensive line to make things happen.
