A police investigation is underway in the Bronx after a man was seriously injured during an early morning shooting on Sunday, authorities said.
According to police sources, the gunfire erupted just before 2 a.m. on Aug. 2 along Corona Parkway and East 181 Street. When officers from the 48th Precinct arrived on the scene, they found a 36-year-old man with a gunshot wound to his armpit.
EMS rushed him to Saint Barnabas Hospital, where he was listed in stable condition.
Cops say the gunman, who stood about 5 feet, 9 inches, and wore all black, fled in an unknown direction. Police stated that they do not currently have a motive for the shooting.
According to NYPD data, so far this year, shootings in the precinct are up by 6.2% while the number of shooting victims is up by 11.1%.
No arrests have been made, and the investigation remains ongoing.
