Johnny Depp made a surprise appearance at Alice Cooper‘s recent concert in London, appearing onstage with his Hollywood Vampires bandmate to pay tribute to Ozzy Osbourne. The two rockers joined forces to honor the legendary Black Sabbath frontman, just three days after his family announced that he had died at the age of 76. The mic drop moment left concertgoers stunned, as no one had expected the Pirates of the Caribbean actor and musician to be at the event, let alone grab his guitar and perform at the sold-out show.

The Judas Priest and Alice Cooper concert promised “a night of unparalleled metal and theatrical rock,” but those who bought a ticket to the show got an extra surprise when Depp walked out onstage with his guitar in hand at London’s O2 Arena on July 25. The crowd went wild as he joined the two rock legends midway through the event to perform a thundering cover of Black Sabbath’s 1970 hit Paranoid. Videos from the night surfaced on social media, as people pulled out their phones to document the iconic moment — as seen below.

Ozzy Osbourne Once Revealed He Wanted This Famous Actor to Play Him in a Biopic (and It’s Not Johnny Depp)

Following Ozzy Osbourne’s death, a resurfaced interview clip that shows the rockstar saying who he would want to play him in a biopic has gone viral.

Cooper is easy to identify in the videos as he takes center stage wearing an Osbourne T-shirt, as a further way to pay his respects to the Prince of Darkness. Depp joins partway through the performance, rocking out on bass guitar alongside the rest of the group. According to Deadline, Depp stuck around for one final song after the Osbourne tribute, joining in with a raucous rendition of Cooper’s beloved School’s Out anthem in a moment that concertgoers won’t soon forget, and many appreciated in a week marked by heartbreak and sadness.

The Osbourne family announced Ozzy’s death in a personal statement on July 22, weeks after his farewell performance with the original Black Sabbath line-up at England’s Villa Park. “It is with more sadness than mere words can convey that we have to report that our beloved Ozzy Osbourne has passed away this morning,” the statement read. “He was with his family and surrounded by love. We ask everyone to respect our family privacy at this time.”

Depp’s cameo appearance at the Judas Priest and Alice Cooper concert certainly caught people off guard, as he notably took some time away from the spotlight during his highly publicized legal battles with ex-wife Amber Heard. However, he has steadily been making a comeback, pronounced by his return to the silver screen in 2023. He is set to star in two further films, one being the Terry Gilliam apocalyptic comedy The Carnival at the End of Days, and the other being a psychological thriller directed by Marc Webb titled Day Drinker.

In addition, Depp recently boarded a horror project with famed filmmaker Ridley Scott, which will see the two Hollywood heavyweights put a new spin on one of the most well-known and celebrated stories of the gothic horror genre. It is an exciting new endeavor, but not one that is expected to pull Depp away from other potential commitments, as he is also reportedly in “advanced talks” to set sail as Captain Jack Sparrow in a potential sixth Pirates of the Caribbean film, further expanding Disney’s multi-billion-dollar film franchise.
