Cleveland County Sheriff’s Office asks for help finding loose caiman
CLEVELAND COUNTY, Okla. —
Authorities are asking for the public’s help in finding a caiman that got loose over the weekend in Cleveland County.
The caiman was reported loose near Sunnylane Estates at South Sunnylane Road and East Indian Hills Road.
In a news release, the Cleveland County Sheriff’s Office encouraged people who live in that area to keep an eye on any pets and to call 911 if they see the animal.
What is a caiman?
A caiman is a small-to-medium sized predatory reptile that belongs to the alligator family. There are several distinctive species native to Central and South America.
Caimans look very much like alligators and crocodiles, and they mostly live along the edges of rivers and other bodies of water. They are not native to Oklahoma.
