After more than six decades serving Chicago, Lakeview East’s popular Stella’s Diner has closed its doors for good, the owner confirmed to NBC Chicago on Sunday.

However, another Chicago breakfast institution is set to take over the space at West Barry Avenue and North Broadway.

Owner Marvin Barsky said the longtime restaurant was sold after months of negotiations.

NBC Chicago reported earlier this month Stella’s was temporarily shut down by city officials after roaches were found during an inspection. The owner said it wasn’t related to the permanent closure.

Barsky said Ann Sather will open a new location at the site, just months after its longtime restaurant on Belmont closed.

As of Sunday, it was unclear when the new restaurant would open.
