Orioles trade outfielder Taylor Ward to the Seattle Mariners
BALTIMORE —
The Orioles made another trade on Monday sending outfielder Taylor Ward to the Seattle Mariners in exchange for three players.
According to ESPN’s Jeff Passan, the Orioles will be sending the 32-year-old outfielder to the Mariners for pitchers Alex Hoppe, Harrison Kreiling and Brock Moore. Ward, who the Orioles had traded for in the offseason for former pitcher Grayson Rodriguez, had struggled during his time with the Orioles.
He only hit seven home runs in his time with the Orioles, after hitting 36 with the Los Angeles Angels last season. He served as the Orioles lead-off hitter for most of the season and was leading the majors in walks. The team was expecting more from Ward, especially from the power department.
He joins a Mariners club that is in a similar situation as the Orioles, as they are three games under .500, but only two games out of a Wild Card spot. He was batting .247 on the season but had really struggled after a hot start. He batted .304 and led the majors in doubles for the first month, but since then has batted under .200 in the second half.
The three pitchers from Seattle are all potential pieces in the bullpen if they continue to develop with Moore being the highest rated prospect. He finished as the No. 23 ranked prospect in the 2025 Seattle Mariners top-30 prospect list.
