Phoenix Vice Mayor Kesha Hodge Washington wants the city to look for ways to fund its eviction legal services program beyond next year.
Phoenix initially offered the free eviction legal services during the peak of the COVID-19 pandemic in 2020 and extended it into 2021 before bringing it back again at the start of 2025. The program is funded through June 2027 by interest from funds allocated through the American Rescue Plan Act.
“I would encourage us to identify potential funding to continue this program beyond the ARPA interest,” Hodge Washington told staff during a June 24 Community Services and Education Subcommittee meeting.
