ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. — The Chicago White Sox were searching for help behind the plate.
Monday, they acquired catcher Joey Bart from the Atlanta Braves for pitcher Duncan Davitt, the team announced.
Bart, 29, has a combined .226/.303/.377 slash line with four home runs and 13 RBIs in 41 games this season for the Pittsburgh Pirates and Braves. He was traded from Pittsburgh to Atlanta on June 18.
The No. 2 pick in the 2018 draft by the San Francisco Giants, Bart has a career .238 average with 32 home runs and 126 RBIs over 376 career games in seven big-league seasons with the Giants (2020-23), Pirates (2024-26) and Braves (2026).
Jeff Passan had the initial report of the Sox dealing for Bart.
Davitt has appeared in two games this season with the Sox, allowing one run on two hits in two innings with one strikeout. He has spent most of this season at Triple-A Charlotte, where he had a 6.22 ERA in 21 outings (10 starts). The right-hander had been designated for assignment earlier Monday.
Edgar Quero and Drew Romo have handled a bulk of the catching duties for the Sox this year, with Kyle Teel spending a chunk of the season on the injured list. Teel is currently on the IL with a left ankle sprain.
