Jacksonville ‘super-speeder’ accused of driving 117 mph in 65 mph zone with child in car

  • August 4, 2026

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – A 24-year-old man was arrested Sunday after deputies said he was driving 117 mph in a 65 mph zone on I‑295 and was also charged with child neglect, according to the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office.

Deputies said they first saw a white BMW SUV about 8:30 a.m. as it merged onto I‑295 south near N. Main Street. Using a directional radar unit, an officer recorded the vehicle at 117 mph in the 65 mph zone near the Duval Road exit; a closer radar reading and pacing confirmed speeds of about 112 mph, the agency said.

The vehicle changed lanes repeatedly while passing other traffic, then steered onto the Lem Turner Road exit and stopped, the report states. The driver was taken into custody at about 8:40 a.m.

He was charged with operating a motor vehicle at 100 mph or more, a second‑degree misdemeanor under Florida law, and with neglect of a child without great bodily harm, a third‑degree felony, the sheriff’s office said.

The 2024 white BMW X2 was retrieved from the scene by a third party, and an officer transported the arrestee to the Pretrial Detention Facility for booking.

A copy of the arrest report was routed to the Florida Department of Children and Families.
