FORT WORTH – James Henry Messer went to be with his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, on June 20, 2025. Funeral: 12 p.m. Wednesday, June 25, 2025, in Mount Olivet Chapel. Interment: Mount Olivet Cemetery. James was born on November 4, 1927, to Robert Fletcher Messer and Mary Susie Hobbs Messer in Paducah, TX. James married Lucy Thelma Smith Byars who preceded him to Heaven. James served in the Army Air Corps Forum from 3/14/1946 to 8/30/1947. He owned a business, J & L Appliance, for many years. He was the Deputy Sheriff of Tarrant County from 10/1/1977 to 4/29/1979 and was a security officer at Ridglea Bank and his church, Lakeside Church of God, with 29 years’ service to the church serving as greeter. James is survived by Thelma’s children; Glenda Kay Griffin and son, Mike; Ronald Lynn Byars and wife, Bess and sons, Glenn and Patrick, Charmane Walker and son , Brian and daughter, Jennifer; and Sidney Allen Byars and wife, Kim and son, Chance. James is survived by daughter, Mary Nell Sanders; grandchildren, Melissa, Theresa, Christina, Scotty and Jeremy; numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren, great-great-grandchildren; and step-granddaughter, Tammy Sitton.
