Cook County Crime Stoppers is offering a $1,000 reward for information in the hit-and-run that killed a woman who was crossing the street with her fiancé.
Marcella Herrera, 22, was struck and killed by a silver SUV on Saturday, July 19, along South Ashland Avenue near West 19th Street on the Southwest Side. Herrera’s fiancé was also struck and seriously injured.
“Your tip could be the key to bringing closure to Marcella’s family and holding this driver accountable,” Paul Rutherford, chairman of Cook County Crime Stoppers, said in a news release.
On Saturday night, relatives held a vigil for the bride-to-be, who was set to be married next month.
“Marcella was such a beautiful human being, everybody knows it,” Diego Garcia, a friend of Marcella’s, said. “She worked at a daycare, she did community work, she loved her siblings.”
