A Frontier Airlines flight bound for Detroit was evacuated Thursday after a passenger allegedly made a verbal bomb threat before takeoff, prompting a police response at Houston’s George Bush Intercontinental Airport.
According to Frontier Airlines, Flight 1958 was preparing to depart for Detroit Metropolitan Wayne County Airport when the passenger made the alleged threat. As a precaution, everyone onboard was safely evacuated while local and federal authorities responded.
“As a matter of precaution and in coordination with local and federal authorities,” passengers were evacuated from the aircraft, Frontier said in a statement to CBS News Detroit.
The airline said law enforcement officers searched the aircraft and “found nothing of concern.” Passengers were expected to be reaccommodated on another Frontier flight later Thursday evening.
Person Taken Into Custody After Alleged Bomb Threat On Frontier Flight
Officials at George Bush Intercontinental Airport confirmed that one person was taken into custody following the incident. Authorities have not released additional details about the individual or what specifically was said that prompted the response. Houston police said the investigation remains ongoing.
No injuries were reported during the evacuation. While authorities worked to investigate the reported threat, the flight remained on the ground before passengers were scheduled to continue their trip to Metro Detroit on a later departure. Officials have not announced whether any charges have been filed.
The investigation remains active, and additional information is expected as authorities continue reviewing the incident.
