Donna Abel, Chief Executive of Jersey Cheshire Home, has released her debut book.
Blending humour with personal reflection, the book is dedicated to her mother, Carmel Hogan, who passed away suddenly in October last year.
Timed to coincide with what would have been her mum’s birthday, the launch has been both emotional and uplifting.
Donna (pictured) shared: “I can’t believe I’m saying this, but my book is officially out on Amazon! It’s my amazing Mum’s birthday this week, the first without her here. If there’s an Amazon in heaven, I know you’d already have bought a copy.”
While the title hints at an adventure story, the book is less about trekking and more about the emotional journey that follows loss. It’s a reflection on resilience, friendship, and finding laughter in the moments you least expect it.
The Jersey Cheshire Home community has been central to Donna’s story, both in life and in the pages of the book. Proceeds from sales will go towards supporting the charity’s work with people living with complex disabilities in the island.
“Writing this book helped me through the storm of losing Mum. She loved stories, she’d have laughed at some parts, cried at others, and definitely had her say about what I made up. It’s strange she’s not here to read it, but this is for her.”
