The Night Agent season 3 might be fixing one of season 2’s biggest problems, but not in the right way. The Night Agent season 2’s ending and the season as a whole received far more mixed responses than the premiere run, with many of the narrative elements and new characters not working as well.
Another common critique from audiences was focused on Rose, Peter Sutherland’s main will-they-won’t-they love interest/computer hacking expert, who was integral to season 1. Season 2 received criticism for the handling of her character, with her motives constantly fluctuating and her presence feeling generally out of place.

As of 7/27/2025, Luciane Buchanan is still not confirmed for The Night Agent season 3’s cast. The series wrapped filming earlier in July, and there’s been no mention of Buchanan on set filming for Rose. The Night Agent Season 3 Can’t Repeat The Same Rose & Peter Story For The Third Time
The Night Agent season 2’s Rose and Peter dynamic was repetitive, and it’s something that season 3 needs to improve on to truly succeed.
Luciane Buchanan has recently done press for her upcoming Apple TV+ series, Chief of War, in which she’ll star alongside Jason Momoa. However, she hasn’t mentioned The Night Agent’s upcoming season in any interviews, although she’s teased parts of her upcoming film, Evil Dead Burn.
Peter & Rose’s Dynamic Was Season 2’s Biggest Letdown
Peter & Rose Were Fantastic Together In Season 1
After being fantastic in The Night Agent season 1, Peter and Rose’s dynamic wasn’t as effective in season 2. With no training for a top-secret Night Action mission, it felt strange seeing her constantly involved with dangerous missions like the infiltration of the Iranian Embassy.
More importantly, after all the character development in season 1, Peter and Rose barely made any headway in season 2. The writing constantly pushed them away from each other in ways they had already seemingly moved past in the first run, ultimately bringing them to a similar end result.
The Night Agent Can’t Give Up On Rose Just Yet
Rose Needs To Make A Comeback
Despite Rose’s character not working well in season 2, that’s not the fault of actress Luciane Buchanan. Her part was integral to season 1’s success, and it was far too early to cast her out. There were plenty of ways to make her character work, including a time jump between seasons that would allow her to gain the proper training.
Her part was integral to season 1’s success, and it was far too early to cast her out.
I still have hope she’ll appear again toward the end of the season, having accomplished the aforementioned goal. This would allow her and Peter to work together more candidly going forward in The Night Agent’s future seasons, with her fully realizing her place within Night Action.
