After eight years of waking up San Antonio, Sarah Acosta has said her final goodbye to KSAT viewers.
Acosta reflected on her time at KSAT during her final morning on Good Morning San Antonio Saturday, August 8, sharing a message of gratitude with viewers and her colleagues.
“It’s been a really special ride here at KSAT and I am so grateful to all our viewers and everyone you see behind the scene that just makes coming to work so special, especially when it can be really tough getting up early in the morning on the weekend,” Acosta said during her final 8 a.m. broadcast.
Ahead of her final show, Acosta also took to social media to look back on the moments that defined her 17 years in journalism, from flying with the Blue Angels and reporting live from packed pep rallies to covering severe weather and tragedies she said she will never forget.
“It’s been a wild ride,” Acosta wrote. “17 years of journalism and I don’t have a favorite story, but I definitely have some memorable moments.”
She said some of the most important stories of her career came during her final year, including coverage of efforts to protect San Antonio’s drinking water and combat climate change.
And while Acosta is leaving the news industry, she hinted that storytelling will remain part of whatever comes next.
“Just because I am leaving journalism, doesn’t mean I will stop telling stories,” Acosta wrote.
Her final days at KSAT also brought heartfelt messages from colleagues who shared the newsroom and early morning hours with her.
Reporter Courtney Friedman called Acosta “one of a kind,” remembering her sarcasm, honesty and heart-to-heart talks while praising her decision to prioritize her family.
Meteorologist Sarah Spivey reflected on a friendship that grew well beyond the newsroom after more than half a decade of early weekend mornings together. The two attended each other’s weddings and welcomed their first children just months apart.
“It’s easy to be friends with someone who is passionate, seeks justice and truth for her community, who is honest, and puts family first,” Spivey wrote.
“Sarah, I am so excited for your next chapter! You get all the flowers.”
